CASA Community Update

Last night, one of our CASA players was the victim of an assault while walking home. They are safe and being supported by friends and teammates, but our community is shaken.

CASA was built as a safe, inclusive space where everyone can bring their full selves to the field and beyond. Incidents like this are painful reminders of why community matters, and why we must continue to stand up for each other—especially as we head into Pride Week.

We encourage all of our members to look out for one another, walk together when possible, and continue showing the strength, kindness, and solidarity that make CASA more than just a league.

We will be supporting our teammate directly and as a community. Our hearts are with our teammate today. We stand with them — and with all of you.

On Saturday, August 23 we take over Deerfoot Athletic Park (1603 16 St NE) for one action-packed day that will crown our 2025 champions.🏆

We’re shaking things up this year to make playoffs smoother, faster, and with less waiting around to play!

⚾ Doubleheaders
• Morning (10 AM – 1 PM): Divisions C & D
• Afternoon (1 PM – 4 PM): Divisions A & B

☔️ With rain and cold in the forecast all weekend, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel Saturday’s Inclusive Exhibition Game.

Unsafe field conditions and an all-around soggy, chilly vibe just wouldn’t do justice to the day we had planned. Rather than cancel last-minute, we’re making the call now to give everyone time to adjust — especially those taking transit.

We looked at backup options, but none came close to the inclusive, joyful experience we were building. With nearly 40 players registered, we’re exploring whether a reschedule later this summer is possible. We’ll also be issuing refunds and will share those details shortly.

‼️UPDATE: With disappointment, we’re cancelling our Inclusive Exhibition Game on Saturday, June 21.

Rain and cold are expected to begin Friday and continue all weekend, leaving the fields unsafe to play on — and creating a damp, chilly, and honestly miserable experience for everyone involved.

Rather than wait until game day, we’re making this call now. With a 100% chance of rain in the forecast, it felt more respectful to give everyone notice — especially for those taking transit, so you’re not caught mid-commute when the cancellation hits.

We explored backup plans, but nothing matched the experience we had envisioned for the day.

We’re so grateful for your enthusiasm, and we’re already looking at whether we can reschedule for later this summer. We’ll also be issuing refunds and will share those details shortly.

The Calgary Apollo Softball Association (CASA) is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all 2SLGBTQ+ individuals who are passionate about softball. We understand that financial barriers can sometimes prevent people from participating in sports leagues. To address this challenge, we are proud to offer a financial assistance program to help eligible 2SLGBTQ+ individuals 18 years and older living in Calgary, AB, cover the costs associated with joining our league.

We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to participate in sports, regardless of their financial situation. The CASA financial assistance program is one way we are working to make softball more accessible for all.

Please note that space in our league is limited, and we encourage you to apply early.

Applications must be submitted to CASA by Friday, February 7th, 2025.

REMINDER: The CASA Annual General Meeting (AGM) is a yearly gathering between CASA members/players and the current Board. Members for open Board positions and Bylaw amendments will be voted on.

If you are interested in being considered for a position, please email us at info@casaleague.ca or nominate yourself during the AGM. Be prepared to explain to our members why you are a suitable candidate for the role. If you won't be able to attend, you must provide a written statement for nomination consideration.

It’s almost Pride Weekend, CASA! Come duck walk, sashay, trot, or dance your way through Pride with CASA at this years parade on September 1st 👠✨

We will be meeting at 9 Ave SE & 6 St SE. Please arrive at the meeting spot no later than 10:30am! The parade begins at 11:00am and will last about 60 to 90 minutes.

Wear your team jersey to show our CASA pride! Maybe bring along a water bottle and some sun screen too! ☀️🕶️

And as always, make your way to Princes Island afterwards for the Calgary Pride Festival! 🏳️‍🌈🙌🏽

CASA is very excited to be hosting its 7th Annual Pride Slam on Saturday, August 31st! Pride Slam is our annual one-day tournament held Pride Weekend! Players register online and are randomly placed on teams to play ball for some fun prizes!

This event sells out every year, so make sure to get signed up early! Registration opens at 12noon on August 6. Use the link in our bio to register! 🙌🏽🌈✨
